Identification of Precious Corals (Corallium rubrum vs C. japonicum) Using LA-ICP-MS Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Concentrations of Ba and Pb measured by LA-ICP-MS make it possible to distinguish the precious corals Corallium rubrum from Mediterranean Sea C. japonicum Pacific Ocean with a high degree confidence. Compared japonicum, coral contains higher (>6 >0.2 ppm, respectively). This chemical fingerprinting technique was developed authors’ group during prior research is successfully tested here on three polished red cabochons known origin. minimally destructive, relatively inexpensive easy-to-implement method can help enforce trade regulations distinguishing CITES-listed non-CITES-listed corals.

Quantifying Spatial Genetic Structuring in Mesophotic Populations of the Precious Coral Corallium rubrum
While shallow water red coral populations have been overharvested in the past, nowadays, commercial harvesting shifted its pressure on mesophotic organisms. An understanding of red coral population structure, particularly larval dispersal patterns and connectivity among harvested populations is paramount to the viability of the species. In order to determine patterns of genetic spatial structur...
متن کاملStructure and biodiversity of coralligenous assemblages dominated by the precious red coral Corallium rubrum over broad spatial scales
Data on species diversity and structure in coralligenous outcrops dominated by Corallium rubrum are lacking. A hierarchical sampling including 3 localities and 9 sites covering more than 400 km of rocky coasts in NW Mediterranean, was designed to characterize the spatial variability of structure, composition and diversity of perennial species inhabiting coralligenous outcrops. We estimated spec...
متن کاملLA-iMageS: a software for elemental distribution bioimaging using LA–ICP–MS data
The spatial distribution of chemical elements in different types of samples is an important field in several research areas such as biology, paleontology or biomedicine, among others. Elemental distribution imaging by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) is an effective technique for qualitative and quantitative imaging due to its high spatial resolution and s...
متن کاملLaser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS): comparison of different internal standardization methods using laser-induced plasma (LIP) emission and LA-ICP-MS signals.
The source of signal variations that governs the analytical performance of laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) was investigated in this study. In order to specify the source of signal variations of LA-ICP-MS, laser-induced plasma (LIP) Fe emission, LA-ICP-MS Fe+ and LA-ICP-MS Ni+ signals were used as internal standards for the determination of trace elements ...
